D-G-F beats Hawley for trip to Legion state tourney

PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. – Tyler Madson threw a complete-game two-hitter to lift Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to a 6-0 win over Hawley in Saturday’s championship game of the Minnesota Division II American Legion District 9 Tournament.

With the win, D-G-F advances to the Division II state tournament which begins Friday in Luverne.

Madson, who now sports a 7-1 record, struck out nine Hawley batters and walked only one.

“He is a consistent pitcher and is always around the strike zone,” said D-G-F coach Mark Kragness. “He doesn’t overpower you but he changes speeds very well and keeps hitters off-balance.”

Brett Meyers had two hits and three RBI for D-G-F – including a two-run single in the seventh inning when D-G-F expanded its lead from 3-0 to 6-0.

D-G-F will take a 26-9 record to the state tournament.
