Jamestown cruises to win over Mandan at ND Class 2A American Legion baseball tournament

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Jamestown had been waiting for a game like they played Tuesday night for most of the summer.

The offense exploded with 16 hits and Joey Gebhardt went seven strong innings as 10th-seeded Post 14 knocked off No. 7 Mandan 10-2 at Jack Brown Stadium.

“We knew it was going to happen from the first pitch,” Jamestown’s Ben Walz said.

The Class 2A state tournament play-in victory sends Jamestown (11-27) to today’s quarterfinals, where it squares off against No. 2 Grand Forks at 8 tonight.

Jamestown’s offense was steady throughout the game, but never better than in the fifth inning. Post 14 struck for five runs on four hits and two errors, highlighted by Ben Walz’s bases-clearing double that scored Nate Soulis, Nick Fuchs and Shaun Hogan.
