SAN DIEGO—Former North Dakota State linebacker Joe Mays signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday, the team announced, meaning that makes two former Bison players as linebackers on the same NFL team.

San Diego outside linebacker Kyle Emanuel was a fifth-round draft pick of the Chargers this season.

Mays played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, starting 38 of his 69 career games, totaling 211 tackles, 1.5 sacks, six passes defensed and 29 special teams tackles over seven seasons. Initially a sixth-round pick by the Eagles, he spent this past offseason with the New York Jets.
