RedHawks lose at Winnipeg as they fall into tie for wild card
WiNNIPEG—Winnipeg starter Kevin McGovern pitched seven scoreless innings to help lead the Goldeyes to a 5-0 victory against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday, Sept. 1, in American Association baseball at Shaw Park.
McGovern combined with two relievers to limit the RedHawks to six hits in the shutout. F-M (55-42) fell into a first-place tie with Kansas City in the wild card. The T-Bones earned a 4-1 victory against Winnipeg on Friday.
The top team in the wild-card standings earns a spot in the postseason. Kansas City (55-42) has the head-to-head tiebreaker against the RedHawks. There are three games remaining in the regular season.
RedHawks catcher Charlie Valerio went 2-for-4 Friday against the Goldeyes. He was the only F-M batter with multiple hits.
