Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton

Coach: Mike Clark (sixth season)

Last season: 10-17

Who's gone: Ethan Edeen, Kyle Rothschadl, Brandon Clark, Ryan Poehls, Colin Gilbert

Key returners: Nathan Brown, Sr., G; Cole Honek, Sr., G; Nick Lund, Sr., G; Bryce Anderson, Jr., F; Nathan Leitner, Jr., F; Tanner Tahran, Jr., F; Drew Coalwell, So., F; Ben Henriksen, So., G; Carter Kohler, So., G; Aiden Leach, So., G.

Coach's comments: "We are looking forward to an exciting year. We have a great group of young men with work ethic that is second to none. Our inexperience may show to start the season, but the basketball knowledge, heart, desire and skills we possess should allow us to improve and progress at a nice pace. It may take some time to gel and figure out rotations, but with the number of team-first and unselfish players in the program we are looking forward to the challenge. Our goal will be to improve and progress throughout the season and hopefully play our best basketball come tournament time."

Moorhead

Coach: Tyler Bormann (second season)

Last season: 3-23

Who's gone: Adam Wilson, Jordan Odegard

Key returners: Maleeck Harden, Jr., SF; Drew Hagen, So., G/SF; Logan Garcia, Jr., F; Ethan Hoff, Sr., SF.

Coach's comments: "Our group is excited to get started today. Coming off a season where our young nucleus got extensive experience and learned valuable lessons about competing at a high level, we will look to take daily steps this season toward competing on a nightly basis. Our staff is excited about the foundation we built last year, and with the very productive summer period we had I think we're poised to take a step toward competing in Section 8AAAA as the season continues. In order for us to do that, we will need to continue to improve our defensive understanding and efficiency, as well as cut down on the number of turnovers we had a year ago."

Moorhead Park Christian

Coach: Josh Lee (fifth season)

Last season: 13-14

Who's gone: Jared Motschenbacher, Ryan Kerr

Key returners: Steele Senske, Sr., G; Darien Bogenreif, Sr., F; Brock Aamodt, Sr., G; Kai Nellermore, Jr., G.

Coach's comments: "Looking forward to an exciting season. This group has put a lot of hours in the gym and dedicated themselves to improving both as a team and as individuals. We need our younger guys to step up into big roles this year and we are confident they will be able to do that. We have a solid core group of upperclassmen that mixing in athletic underclassmen should provide a lot of success as the year progresses."

Fargo Davies

Coach: Bart Manson (eighth season)

Last season: 25-2, Eastern Dakota Conference champions

Who's gone: Matt Veit, Jake Paper, Andy Baer, Ty Setness, Aaron Hallstrom

Key returners: Parker Stenseth, Sr., C; Shane Anderson, Sr., C; Jayden Klabo, Jr., F; Mitch Larson, Jr., F; Braeton Motschenbacher, Jr., G; Harrison Thom, Jr., G; Matthew Nemer, Jr., G; Ben Werlinger, Sr., G.

Coach's comments: "The Davies basketball team lost about 80 percent of their scoring from the 2016-17 season. That group of seniors had a lot of success at Davies High School. We do have a handful of players that played good minutes for us in the 2016-17 season back this season. One of the keys will be the amount of depth and size that will make up the 2017-18 roster."

Fargo North

Coach: Ted Critchley (third season)

Last season: 12-12

Who's gone: Siman Sem (EDC Player of the Year), Matt Pietsch, Aaron Matejka, Anders Kjar, Dan Hollaar, Cameron Sherrard, Brady Schmiess, Erik Benson

Key returners: Keaton Hog, Jr., G; Hyatt Martineau, Sr., G; Sawyer Kenney, Sr., C.

Coach's comments: "We will be a very young and somewhat inexperienced team for varsity competition, however, the players have done a lot of work in the offseason to prepare for their opportunity, which hopefully allows for a smoother transition to their varsity careers. Our primary goal to compete on a nightly basis does not change, despite the inexperience we are bringing in. I feel that our players are ready to accept the challenge within this highly competitive conference. As with so many other teams, we hope to be playing our best basketball come EDC tournament time."

Fargo Oak Grove

Coach: Kyle Card (10th season)

Last season: 20-6

Who's gone: Bryce Bakkegard, Devon Foster, Jimmy Slagle, Justin Berg, Jackson Adams, Alex Schlenker, Jace Pulst

Key returners: Andrew Christianson, Sr., G; TJ Anderson, Sr., G; Tyrell Rodriguez, Jr., F; Jonny Deitz, Sr., F; Jacob Teigen, Sr., F.

Coach's comments: "We lost a core group of seniors that will be tough to replace, but we feel we have a good group of seniors, juniors and sophomores that are ready to step in and make positive contributions. With our starting backcourt returning in Andrew Christianson and TJ Anderson, we bring back a couple strong leaders both on and off the basketball court. It may take some time for all players to come together and accept their roles, but we hope come tournament time we are ready to make a run in Region 1."

Fargo Shanley

Coach: Andrew Burns (second season)

Last season: 15-12

Who's gone: Jake Reinholz, Justin DeKeyser, Austin Yaggie, Aaron Seefeldt and Matt Burd

Key returners: Jake Kava, Sr., F; Cam Saville, Sr., G; Jake McKeever, Sr., F; Mason Thimjon, Sr., G; Kaleb Christmann, Sr., C; Talon Hoffer, So., G; Cody Mehlisch, Sr., F.

Coach's comments: "We bring back an experience core group of players, who improved a great last year. The experience of getting to a state tournament last year will hopefully carry over and give our guys a little extra motivation. We will also incorporate some new faces to the varsity level and we hope that they can have an immediate positive impact. We are excited to take on the rest of the EDC, which is always competitive and will be again this year. We hope to represent our school and our fans well throughout the season and appreciate all the support."

Fargo South

Coach: Mike Hendrickson (18th season)

Last season: 12-12

Who's gone: Jack Pifer, Menkeh Mendin, Cade Briss, Kaleb Johnson (injury)

Key returners: Sam O'Keeffe, Sr., F; Charles Bennington, Sr., F; Siadu Conteh, Sr., G; Kain Carlson, Sr., G; Grant Warren, Sr., F; Isaiah Johnson, Sr., F; Dawson Weisenberger, Jr., F; Kiir Mobar, Jr., G.

Coach's comments: "We have experience back. Key will be how last year's returners mesh with the newcomers. EDC is always a tough league, so we will need to be prepared to play every night out."

West Fargo

Coach: Adam Palczewski (first season)

Last season: 21-6 record, fifth place at state tournament

Who's gone: Haboniman Simon, Raiden Forrest, John Morton, Michael Yeanay

Key returners: Joe Pistorius, Sr., G; Abdi Sufi, Sr., G; Luke Lennon, Jr., C.

Coach's comment: "We're doing things the way I think they should be done. We're not changing the way basketball is played. It's basketball. You pass, you shoot, you run, you play defense. As long as we do those things, we'll be all right."

West Fargo Sheyenne

Coach: Tom Kirchoffner (fourth season)

Last season: 17-10, sixth place at state tournament

Who's gone: Carter Bonnema, Chase Erickson, Collin Trottier, Josh Thiele, Isaac Stormon, Dawson Anderson, Hayden Reynolds

Coach's comment: "I think it's going to be an exciting year for us. I'm excited for the guys. We've got a lot of new faces and add a lot of news guys to the varsity court. For us coaches, it's just exciting to see what we can put together."
