FARGO—Former North Dakota State basketball standout Taylor Braun was one of 14 players chosen to participate in the USA World Cup Qualifying Team training camp on Feb. 15-20.
USA Basketball uses the training camp to select the 12-man team for the FIBA World Cup Qualifying first round games against Cuba on Feb. 23 and Puerto Rico on Feb. 26 in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Braun will also play for the USA in an exhibition against the Mexican national team in the NBA G League International Challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend on Feb. 18 in Los Angeles.
Braun, in the midst of his first season with the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League, has averaged nearly 33 minutes per game while putting up 10 points, five rebounds and three assists per contest. He is also tied for 14th in the league with 55 steals this season.
The USA Basketball Men's World Cup qualifying team is coached by Jeff Van Gundy. The official, 12-member USA team is expected to be announced following the Feb. 20 evening practice.
Braun played for NDSU from 2009 to 2014, earning Summit League Player of the Year honors in 2014.
