Who’s gone: Marcus Osman, Siddharth Gupta, Erich Wanzek.

Key returners: Evan Kottsick, Sr.; Corey Hermann, Sr.; Nate Thoreson, Jr.; Thomas Laven, Jr.; Trevor Jacklitch, Jr.

Coach’s comments: “Our team this year is going to be the hardest working team we have had. We lost some key seniors from last season and we know that we have to put in some extra time to make up for that. We have very consistent depth throughout our lineup and are excited to be battling in the always competitive EDC.”

Fargo South Coach: Vic Youngs (27th year)

Last year’s record: 12-4, 6-2 EDC (3rd place at the state tournament, 3rd place at East Region tournament)

Who’s gone: Quinn Del Val, Alex Jellison, Jeffery Olander

Key returners: Davis Lawley, Fr.; David Youngs, Jr.; Carter Steffes, Jr.; Brett Schulz, Jr.; Jared Manthei, Sr.; Owen Duncan, Jr.; Noah Johnson, Jr.

Coach’s comments: “We finished third in the East Region and state tournaments last year. Davis Lawley and David Youngs finished fourth in the state doubles tournament and were named to the All-EDC and All-state teams. Many of our players have spent significant amounts of time on the tennis court. We hope that experience translates into another successful season.”

Fargo North Coach: David Russell (1st year)

Last year’s record: 4-9, 3-5 EDC

Who’s gone: Kasey Dilbeck, Randall Kenninger, Johann Landman, Derek Pladson, Zachary Sklebar and Sage Voglewede.

Key returners: Ben Mostad, Sr.; Joseph Kearns, Jr.; Jack Morris, Jr.; Ben Swanson, Jr.

Coach’s comments: “We graduated quite a few seniors last year, but we have a lot of players that are ready to fill those shoes. It will be exciting to see who has stepped up to the next level during the offseason. If we work hard and play smart tennis we will be in for a good year.”

Fargo Shanley Coach: Tony Walz (5th year)

Last year’s record: 6-5, 5-3 EDC

Who’s gone: Patrick Strom, Ander Sawchuck, Brandon Schott, Alex Fairfield, Scott Schwandt

Key returners: Sebastian O’Donnell, Sr.; Damien O’Donnell, Soph.; Cole Satron, Sr.; Peter Simonson, Sr.

Coach’s comments: “We did graduate several players last year, but we have a lot of talent at the JV level that we are counting on to step up this year. Sebastian and Damien O’Donnell have a lot of varsity experience and will anchor our team this year. We have about 10 players vying for those last varsity sports so it should be fun as we’ll get to see the progression of our team this year.”

West Fargo Coach: Chad Anderson (15th year)

Last year’s record: 17-3, 7-1 EDC (Runner-up at state tournament, runner-up at East Region tournament)

Who’s gone: Nick Sikorski, Michael Holland, Brendan Walker, Drew Kooyer

Key returners: Brady Ballweber, Sr. (state doubles champion); North Knewtson, Soph.; Keyan Farahmand, Sr. (state doubles champion); Joey Beske, Fr.

Coach’s comments: “We will be a really good team in the 3-2 format for the tournaments at the end of the season, but we have to get through the regular season finishing in the middle of the pack in the 6-3 format. We will be a young team after our first three players in our lineup. The boys have been putting in a lot of time in the summer and it should be fun to see how they have improved.”

GIRLS Moorhead Coach: Scott Matheson (18th year)

2013 record: 8-7

Who’s gone: Madeline Mueller and Ally Grimly.

Key returners: Brianna Storms (captain), Sr., singles and doubles; Anna Steinwand (captain), Jr., singles; Mallory Smith (captain), Sr., singles.

Coach’s comments: “I think we have a talented team and are pretty dedicated. We are expecting big things from Anna Steinwand this season. We’ll be young, but I think as the season progresses we should get better and better and more confident, so we’re ready for subsections.”
