DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Moorhead’s Ben Welle practiced consistency at its finest this past week and it paid off. Welle won the Pine to Palm golf tournament championship Sunday at the Detroit Country Club after he finished tied for second with Greg Melhus for medalist honors.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – When Connor Holland won the Pine to Palm in 2011, he became just the third 17-year-old golfer to do so in its 79-year history. Flash forward to the 82nd Pine to Palm at the Detroit Country Club, and Holland appreciates how difficult it is to win the elusive golf title. “I haven’t made it past the first round since 2011,” Holland said.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Odds were against Fargo Davies graduate Tanner Kretchman, who found himself down three holes with four remaining in the first round of the 82nd Pine to Palm golf tournament on Thursday at the Detroit Country Club. Add to that the fact that he was down to the medalist winner and Fargo native Grady Meyer, who also is a sophomore on the University of Minnesota men’s golf team and was playing as well as any golfer in the tournament. But Kretchman didn’t worry about the odds.

The Lakers’ depth was in the spotlight once again Tuesday, as the team’s No. 6 golfer, junior Sydney Busker leads the field after shooting an even par 72.
