ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — The disappearance of Jacob Wetterling has been one of the most talked about cases in Minnesota history. Now it is up to an Alexandria judge to decide if the Wetterling family's request to keep some details of that investigation private is allowed under the state or federal constitution. A hearing Friday, Feb. 2, in Alexandria will lay out arguments in the open records case on the Wetterling investigative file. The ruling by Judge Ann Carrott will set an important precedent for Minnesota criminal cases.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. -- Three people were arrested in connection with the 15-year-old missing girl from Alexandria who was found Tuesday, Sept. 5, 20 miles away in neighboring Grant County. Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels sent out a news release shortly after 8 p.m. stating that the police department believes releasing the identities of these people could jeopardize the investigation into the disappearance of Jasmine Block on Aug. 8.

After three full days of searching, the body of an Alexandria man missing since Thursday, April 6, was found Wednesday morning in Lake Agnes. The body of Ryan Johnson, 32, was to be transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County to conduct further examination. Alexandria police blocked off the area around Big Ole Central Park in Alexandria about 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12.

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — A man who was shot and killed by officers at an Alexandria home in August was within 4 feet of the officers while armed with a knife, a release from Douglas County Attorney Chad Larson said Friday, Oct. 21. Larson concluded the shooting of Adam Jo Klimek, 31, of Carlos, by agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was a justifiable use of force done in self-defense.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - A home here appeared to be a total loss after a fire broke out early Wednesday. Firefighters were called just before 6:30 a.m. to 1506 Lakeside Drive, an area not in the city limits, which meant there were no fire hydrants accessible. Forada, Garfield, Carlos and Osakis departments were called into assist the Alexandria Fire Department, using tankers to haul water for a hydrant a few blocks away. "It's going to be a total loss, I'm sure," Alexandria Fire Chief Jeff Karrow said at the scene.
