MINNEAPOLIS — About a dozen pairs of tiny shoes are piled up in Nicolle and Kyle Peltier's North Minneapolis entryway on a July day, and noise comes from around the corner: giggles, barefoot sprints and wrestling. A couple of toy trucks hum. But when a dolphin toy squeals, the young couple cringes. "No, for the love of God, not that toy!" Mom shakes a bottle for 8-month-old Millie. Dad holds the head and neck brace of 2-year-old Kayden as he tries to walk. The Peltiers' priest, the Rev. Paul Jarvis, wrangles the children into the playroom.
STILLWATER, Minn. — A Stillwater man who turned himself in on Thursday said he and a friend were "messing" around with a handgun in his driveway before he shot his friend on Jan. 19. Connor William Graham, 19, was charged with second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Charles O'Connell, 20. According to the criminal complaint, Graham drove to O'Connell's house with a handgun and an airsoft gun. O'Connell suggested they go to an open field to shoot the handgun, so they drove to a field near a golf course in Grant, where the gun was fired twice.
ST. PAUL—Bob and Patricia Krussell from Dellwood pulled their chairs out from a table near the pool area at the White Bear Country Inn and looked around with thin smiles. "This is fitting," Patricia said as they gathered recently at one of their favorite hangouts. "This is where Steve used to hold his business meetings." Steve Berger loved to watch the Packers play the Bears with his son. He spent summer afternoons fishing with his youngest daughter. He flew to Chicago on a whim with his almost-16-year-old daughter to buy her an SUV that they drove home.
