Winnipeg - Not long ago, it seemed improbable that a city of fewer than 800,000 people in a flyover area of Canada would be a host city for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. But less than five months from the opening kickoff, Winnipeg is not only hosting seven games, but it’s welcoming four of the top five women’s teams in the world, with two games featuring Team USA.
FARGO -- Tenants of an apartment building at 1121 22nd St. S. were temporarily displaced on Christmas Day morning after a fire started in one unit, spreading smoke. The tenant reported at 8:30 a.m.
FARGO -- Just as they have done for 25 years, Fargo firefighters on Christmas Day delivered gifts to children at Essentia and Sanford Children's hospitals. This tradition was started in 1990 when a Fargo firefighter's 3-year-old son was in the hospital and was concerned Santa wouldn't be able to find him there. That boy left the hospital on Dec. 23 that year, but a nurse at the time told the firefighter's family that when people or groups visit children at the hospital, they usually came before Christmas, but not Christmas Day.

Our giant has fallen. Dennis Walaker has lost this fight. And, let’s be honest, we’re all a little shaken. Though we’ve known for months now that Fargo’s mayor and flood-fighting extraordinaire was battling kidney cancer, we never really expected him to lose this battle. We’re used to seeing him beat the odds.
As the parent of a 4-year-old, I’ve had my moments. Moments that won’t get me nominated for Parent of the Year. So I’ve tried to not be too judgmental when it comes to the Adrian Peterson case captivating our region. But then I come back to a core question I can’t shake: What kind of naughty or dangerous behavior could a 4-year-old do to deserve naked lashings with a stick by one of the NFL’s strongest and most intimidating players? It doesn’t compute.
