FARGO - The first commitment for North Dakota State's Class of 2021 is an in-state product.
Mandan's Jaxon Duttenhefer verbally committed Wednesday night. Duttenhefer was offered in early February after an on campus visited and made his commitment to Matt Entz Wednesday.
Duttenhefer has excelled for the Braves for the last two seasons. He had a breakout fall season for the Braves, as he was selected as a first team all-state player helping Mandan reach the state semifinals. Duttenhefer was a threat on both sides of the ball, scoring two touchdowns as a running back in Mandan's 23-19 road quarterfinal win over Fargo Davies.
Duttenhefer was hotly pursued after receiving an offer from NDSU. He also received offers from North Dakota, South Dakota, Dartmouth and Central Michigan of the Mid-American Conference.
He continues a trend of early commits being from North Dakota. The first commit for the 2020 class was also a North Dakota native in Davies' Ty Satter.
