FARGO - Seven years ago, North Dakota State's football program began planting recruiting seeds in the state of Florida.
Those seeds are starting to blossom. Friday the Bison picked up its latest commitment from the Sunshine State in Britton Pascoe, a defensive back from Valrico, Florida. Pascoe turned down FBS offers from Florida International and Bowling Green in accepting NDSU's offer.
"Coach (Noah) Pauley came to my school in January. They offered me in March and after the offered me it's been constant contact. I've got a lot of offers, NDSU kept in contact, they were loyal to me throughout and that was big." Pascoe said.
Pascoe is 6-0, 170 pounds and besides the FBS offers, Northern Iowa, New Hampshire and Fordham were among his FCS offers. Pascoe finished with 80 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery last season for Bloomingdale High School. That's the same high school that produced 2020 recruit Dominic Gonnella, who signed with NDSU in December of 2019.
"It made my decision easier. I waited to see his reaction when he got there (Fargo), Gonnella told me liked it. There's a couple guys from city up there. Jalen Bussey and Christian Watson are both from Tampa as well." Pascoe said.
Pascoe continues a trend for the Bison of getting some top end talent out of Florida. Atif Austin, the former wide receivers coach at NDSU was the main recruiter in Florida and was able to get Tre Dempsey, Chris Board, Bruce Anderson and Josh Hayes to come to Fargo.
"It makes it easier knowing I'm not the only guy making this transition from Florida to North Dakota. The guys said it's cold in the winter, but the summers are nice."
Pascoe has played safety at Bloomingdale and says he sees himself at nickel, cornerback or safety in college. "Wherever they need me."
Pascoe becomes the eighth commitment for NDSU's Class of 2021 and the second defensive back, joining Nasir Howell who committed two weeks ago.
