OMAHA, Nebraska — Stung by a bad loss in game one, North Dakota State answered from the get-go in game two and earned a split of a Summit League doubleheader at Omaha on Friday.
Omaha lit up the Bison in the middle innings of the first game and won 15-4, but the Bison scored five runs in the top of the first in the second game and won 8-2.
NDSU starter and winner Evan Sankey improved to 4-0 with a solid performance in the Bison's bounce-back win. He worked a complete game, allowing one earned run on seven hits and struck out eight.
Zach Solano and Nick Emanuel both doubled and drove in two runs, Calen Schwabe also drove in a pair, and Charley Hesse doubled and had an RBI. Peter Brookshaw had two hits.
In the first game, NDSU led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth but Omaha scored six runs in that frame, added three more in the fifth and wrapped up the game with four more in the sixth.
Jake Malec and Hesse both hit homers, with Hesse hitting a two-run shot in the fourth. Jack Simonsen singled and had an RBI and Will Busch and Solano both hit doubles.
The teams play single games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game starts at 3 p.m. and first pitch Sunday is 1 p.m.
