LAWRENCE, Kansas — North Dakota State scored twice in the top of the 10th inning and defeated Kansas 5-3 on Friday at Hoglund Ballpark.
In the top of the 10th, hitter Zach Solano led off with a single and Nick Emanuel's sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Jack Simonsen singled in Solano and then came all the way around to score as part of a Kansas error for a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, NDSU winner Wyatt Nelson walked the lead-off man but he and fellow reliever Jake Drew got two ground outs and a strikeout to end the game.
NDSU starter Max Loven was on point, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits in six innings while striking out seven. Parker Harm relieved and allowed a hit and a walk in two scoreless innings, striking out four.
The Bison's Jake Malec and Tucker Rohde both had two hits, including doubles, and Rohde, Peter Brookshaw, Bennett Hostetler and Simonsen all had hits and RBI.
The Bison (27-12 overall) and Jayhawks play the second game of a three-game weekend set at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1. They wrap up the series at noon Sunday, May 2.
