LAWRENCE, Kansas — A four-run fifth inning and solid pitching helped North Dakota State down Kansas 5-3 on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series at Hoglund Ballpark.

In the fifth, the Bison's Bennett Hostetler singled in two runs and Tucker Rohde singled in a third run. Charley Hesse's fielder's choice brought in Hostetler with the fourth run.

Bison starter and winner Evan Sankey (6-1) pitched six scoreless but ran into a jam in the seventh, giving up a RBI double and a two-run single that cut that lead to one. But the Bison came back with a run in the eighth on Nick Emanuel's RBI single and relievers Tristen Roehrich and Jake Drew held the Jayhawks to a couple of hits and a walk in the final two innings.

The Bison are 28-13 overall and play host to Mayville State at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 before Omaha visits for four games May 7-9.
