FARGO — North Dakota State overcame an early two-run deficit and defeated Mayville State 6-2 on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field.

The Bison's Jack Simonsen was 2-for-2, walked twice and drove in three runs. Calen Schwabe had two hits and drove in a run, Bennett Hostetler had two hits, including his 200th career hit. Charley Hesse and Noah Dehne both had RBI.

NDSU's Zach Smith started and went three and Hunter Koep relieved him, worked three innings and got the win. Gabe Pilla pitched the final three innings for the save. Koep and Pilla combined to allow five hits but no runs and struck out six, five by Pilla.

Mayville State fell to 31-15 overall while the Bison improved to 29-13. They play host to Omaha for two games on Friday — 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — and the teams then play single games on Saturday and Sunday.
