FARGO — North Dakota State won the opener of a weekend series with South Dakota State on Friday but two Jackrabbits pitchers clamped down on the Bison in a Game 2 victory.
North Dakota State took the first game 7-4 but fell 5-0 in the nightcap.
In the second game, SDSU starter Drew Beazley two-hit the home club over five innings, striking out three. Reliever Ryan Bourassa was even more effective, allowing just one hit and striking out six over the final two innings.
The Bison's Zach Solano was 2-for-4 and Charley Hesse had the team's only other hit.
In the first game, the Bison trailed by two heading into the home half of the fifth, but scored three runs in that inning and two more in the sixth. After giving up four Jackrabbits runs in the fourth, starter Tristen Roerich and relievers Gabe Pilla and Parker Harm shut down SDSU the final five innings.
Tucker Rohde had three hits and drove in four runs and Bennett Hostetler was 4-for-4 and scored three runs. Charley Hesse had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Bison are 18-11 in the Summit League and 34-15 overall. They play the Jackrabbits again at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday before wrapping up the regular season with three games at Eastern Kentucky on May 20-22.
