FARGO — Peter Brookshaw singled in the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth inning and North Dakota State downed South Dakota State 5-3 in a Summit League game Saturday at Newman Outdoor Field.
NDSU scored first with two runs in the fourth on Bennett Hostetler's two-run single to left. After the Jackrabbits scored three in the fifth, the Bison tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh on Zach Solano's RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jack Simonsen drew a leadoff walk, moved up on Calen Schwabe's sacrifice bunt, then took third on Jake Malec's single to center. After Malec stole second, Brookshaw singled up the middle to score Simonsen and Malec.
Hostetler was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs and Solano and Busch both had two hits.
NDSU starter Evan Sankey went six, allowing three runs on five hits. Reliever Jake Drew improved to 5-0 throwing two innings of one-hit ball, and Parker Harm struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save.
The Bison have won eight of their last 10 and are 19-11 in the league and 35-15 overall. They wrap a four-game weekend set with the Jackrabbits at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at Newman.
