RICHMOND, Ky. — Starter Evan Sankey and two relievers were in command throughout as North Dakota State defeated Eastern Kentucky 8-1 on Friday at Earle Combs Stadium.
Sankey ran his record to 7-1 working five innings, allowing a run on three hits and striking out four. Zach Smith relieved and allowed just a hit while striking out four in his three-inning stint. Parker Harm worked the ninth and struck out one.
The three arms were much needed since the Bison were hanging onto a 2-1 lead through seven innings before breaking the game open the final two innings.
Bennett Hostetler drove in the game's first run in the first and also hit a three-run home run in the ninth. Tucker Rohde doubled in two runs in the eight.
NDSU improved to 37-16 and closes out a three-game set with Eastern Kentucky at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22. The Bison open the Summit League Championships on Thursday, May 27.
