EDINBURG, Texas — Tournament host Texas-Rio Grande Valley erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to top the North Dakota State baseball team 8-3 Saturday at the Al Ogletree Classic.
NDSU scored all three of its runs in the top of the third inning. Jake Malec bunted for an RBI single for the Bison's first run. Jack Simonson then hit a two-run single to right field.
After three runs had already crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Vaqueros (3-3), Christian Sepulveda hit a two-run single. Sepulveda later capped the rally by stealing home.
The Bison (1-4) play Portland at 11 a.m. Sunday. Portland defeated NDSU 2-1.
