ST. LOUIS — North Dakota State running back Kobe Johnson joined quarterback Trey Lance on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team announced Tuesday, Dec. 3, as selected by a vote of the league's media, head coaches and sports information directors.

Lance, last week the first freshman to be named Offensive Player of the Year in the conference, is the fourth player in league history to sweep the Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. NDSU linebacker Jabril Cox (2017), Youngstown State running back Martin Ruiz (2013) and Northern Iowa quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen (2012) were the others.

Lance is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award and Jerry Rice Award, presented to the top offensive player and freshman player in the FCS, respectively. The Marshall, Minn., product is the FCS leader in passing efficiency (187.5) and yards per passing attempt (9.99) and ranks second in completion percentage (.689).

Johnson, from Lawrenceville, Ga., played in 11 of 12 games as a true freshman and is third on the team with 768 all-purpose yards. He rushed 82 times for 602 yards and four touchdowns averaging 7.3 yards per carry including a season-long 75-yard touchdown run at Youngstown State.
