Youngstown State head football coach Bo Pelini is reportedly a strong candidate for the Louisiana State defensive coordinator job, according to FootballScoop, a website that specializes in coaching job information.

Pelini has been the head coach at Youngstown State for five seasons with a 33-28 record. The Penguins play in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the same league as North Dakota State. Pelini led YSU to the 2016 NCAA Division I FCS title game.

According to FootballScoop, Pelini would like to have assurances that Carl Pelini, his brother, would become the next head coach at YSU if Bo got the LSU job. Carl is currently an assistant coach for the Penguins.

Bo Pelini was the head coach at Nebraska from 2008-14, posting a 66-27 record with the Huskers. He was also previously the defensive coordinator at LSU from 2005-2007.

The Penguins posted a 6-6 overall record and 2-6 mark in the MVFC last season.
