CONWAY, Ark. — The Central Arkansas game against Arkansas State that was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, in Jonesboro has been rescheduled, both schools announced Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The game was postponed due to player unavailability among one position group for Arkansas State, which is coming off a 35-31 upset victory against Kansas State last Saturday. Central Arkansas is the lone North Dakota State football opponent this fall. That game is scheduled for Oct. 3 at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
The Central Arkansas-Arkansas State game has been moved to Oct. 10.
“During these unique times, these situations are bound to occur,” Central Arkansas athletic director Brad Teague said in a release “We have seen it across the nation. We were definitely ready and looking forward to competing against the Red Wolves, but we absolutely understand that the health and wellness of our student-athletes has to guide all our decisions.
“We certainly wish the best for ASU's football team and look forward to traveling to Jonesboro on Oct. 10 for an outstanding in-state matchup.”
Jonathan Adams caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Layne Hatcher with 38 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to lift the Red Wolves to victory against Kansas State last weekend in Manhattan. Former NDSU head coach Chris Klieman is the head coach at Kansas State.
Arkansas State stated in a release: “It was not the volume of total players unavailable, but rather the inability to field a safe number of players among the depleted position group that required the game be rescheduled.”
"We are obviously disappointed for the student-athletes participating from both schools, as well as both coaching staffs and fan bases," Arkansas State athletic director Terry Mohajir said in a release. "We are excited that we've rescheduled this game to be played at Centennial Bank Stadium on Oct. 10. … While no one wanted this outcome, the health and safety of our student-athletes will always come first.”
Central Arkansas (1-1) is next scheduled to host Missouri State on Sept. 26 before UCA is scheduled to play at NDSU on Oct. 3.
