The ramp up to the 2021 North Dakota State football season continues on the Bison Media Zone.
This week we'll focus on the best individual players that the Bison will face this season.
One of those players is Albany quarterback Jeff Undercuffler. Undercuffler is the prototypical quarterback for size at 6-5, 231 pounds. He's coming off a shortened spring season that saw him get injured and shortly after the Great Danes decided to end their season early. He had six touchdown passes in three games.
2019 was the coming out party for Undercuffler and Albany. As a redshirt freshman he took over as the Great Danes quarterback and never looked back. He threw for 3,543 yards and 41 touchdown passes as Albany won nine games, including its first-ever postseason game, beating Central Connecticut State.
Undercuffler was honored for his success, being named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and followed it up with his runner-up finish to the Jerry Rice Award. He had five 300 yard passing games to go along with five games where he threw touchdown passes.
This will be an interesting test on both sides. Undercuffler has played in some large environments, including the second round of the playoffs in Bozeman in 2019. The Fargodome will be a much different setting, especially with it being the season opener. On the other hand, the Bison defense will get its first look at a big quarterback with a monster arm. It makes for a dynamic matchup to start the 2021 season.
