FARGO — D1softball.com, a national website that covers Division I women's fastpitch softball, gave North Dakota State a lofty honor on Tuesday. It pegged the Bison as the 29th best program in the country.
The site is releasing its rankings in five-slot increments, so it remains to be seen what teams are ahead of NDSU. But the Bison are also ahead of many Power 5 programs. For instance, Nebraska came in at No. 31, Mississippi was No. 32, Northwestern No. 33, North Carolina No. 36 and Arkansas No. 38.
NDSU made the NCAA tournament in its first year of eligibility in 2009 and haven't wavered much since. The website lauded the Bison for its consistency of winning the Summit League.
"NDSU finished the 2019 season with an overall 42-16 (16-2) record, winning its sixth consecutive Summit League Tournament championship, having played in every championship game since becoming eligible," the website said.
