FARGO — The North Dakota State softball team split their doubleheader against the Omaha Mavericks Saturday afternoon, April 24.
NDSU claimed a 3-1 win in the first game of the twin-bill behind a stellar pitching performance from Lainey Lyle, who surrendered only two hits while striking out seven.
The Bison countered Omaha's second-inning run with a pair of their own in the home half of the frame. Madyson Camacho added a run-scoring single in the fourth inning to provide the final margin.
Both Camacho and Montana DeCamp had two hits in the opening contest.
The Mavericks turned the table in the second game, using a three-run sixth inning to hand the Bison a 5-3 loss.
Omaha took an early two-run lead off a Diana Murtha double. While the Bison cut the deficit in half, Omaha used run-scoring singles from both Taylor Johnson and Emily Klosterman to go up 5-1.
NDSU would add runs in both the sixth and seven innings but could not complete the comeback.
The Bison moved to 13-22 overall and 8-6 in the Summit League. The two teams will play another doubleheader Sunday, April 25.
