FARGO — Riding the high from an 11-inning win in game one, North Dakota State made it a sweep of North Dakota with a victory in game two on Saturday.
The Bison won the opener 3-2 in extra innings, then came back for a 5-3 win in game two.
The Bison won in exciting fashion in game one. Tied at two, Bison pitcher Lainey Lyle set North Dakota down in order in the top of the 11th. In the bottom of the inning, Nicole Licea hit a one-out double and scored the game-winner on Cameryn Maykut's double to left-center.
Sam Koehn and Ciara Jensen both had two hits and drove in the other two Bison runs. Lyle worked all 11 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out eight.
In game two, the Bison trailed 3-1 but turned the tables with a four-run sixth. Avery Wysong hit a two-run home run and Jensen and Maykut both followed with run-scoring doubles. Dez Cardenas also doubled as four of the Bison's five hits went for extra bases. Paige Vargas worked a complete game and struck out 10.
The Bison and Fighting Hawks play another doubleheader, with games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., on Sunday, May 2.
