FARGO — North Dakota scratched out a run in the top of the 10th inning and held on for a 6-5 win over North Dakota State in the first round of the Summit League Tournament on Wednesday at Tharaldson Park.

The loss ends NDSU's season at 16-29. No. 6-seed North Dakota (17-31) advances to play No. 2-seed Omaha at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Tharaldson Park.

NDSU appeared to have the win in its grasp, leading 5-0 after four innings. But UND rallied to tie with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

UND reliever Jannay Jones shut down the Bison offense the final 6-2/3 innings, allowing four hits and four walks but keeping NDSU off the board. She battled Bison reliever Paige Vargas, who worked the final five innings and gave up a run on four hits and struck out five.

In the top of the 10th, UND's Cassie Castaneda walked and pinch runner Caitlyn Shumaker moved to second on a wild pitch. Chevelle Sartin singled, moving Shumaker to third and Mariah Peters' fielder's choice brought in Shumaker with the go-ahead run. In the home half, Jones set the Bison down in order.
