FARGO — The North Dakota State volleyball team took down visiting Western Illinois in straight sets Friday, March 5 inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

The Bison won 25-23, 25-19, 25-18.

The two sides traded blows in the opening set, though the Bison used five kills from Syra Tanchin and four more from Ali Hinze to win in the set.

NDSU kept the Leathernecks at bay in the second set, opening an 18-10 lead before finishing the set.

Western Illinois took an early lead in the match's final set, but the Bison rallied to close out the match. With the score tied 16-16, the Bison closed the match on a 9-2 run.

Tanchin tallied 16 kills to lead the Bison, while Aubrey Putnam notched 11 for the visitors.

The Bison rose to 5-4 and currently sit in the middle of the Summit League standings. The Leathernecks remained winless on the season, falling to 0-11.

The two sides will square off at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 6.
