FARGO—Two events are planned here in recognition of National Small Business Week May 5 - 11.

On Monday, May 6, the Fargo SCORE chapter will hold an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at its offices, 657 2nd Ave. N., Suite 360.

SCORE is a mentoring program of the Small Business Administration that pairs retired business owners with those hoping to start one. Its volunteers provide free and confidential business advice to small business owners.

The Fargo chapter has been mentoring local entrepreneurs since 1964.. In order to meet demand for its services, the nonprofit is looking for additional volunteers who can serve in a variety of roles including:

  • Mentor
  • Subject matter expert
  • Workshop presenter
  • Administration

On Thursday, May 9, the 2019 Small Business Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Offutt School Business at Concordia College, 1310 8th St. S.

The conference will feature workshops and panels covering the topics of starting a business, marketing and market research, financing and general business planning. Small business consultants will also be available for one-on-one visits. Troy Derheim, the U.S. Small Business Administration's 2018 North Dakota Small Business Person of the Year, will deliver the keynote speech.
