The Fargo-Moorhead area has been named the fifth most secure place to live in the United States among mid-size cities, according to an annual Farmers Insurance Group of Companies study.
The rankings, compiled by database experts at www.bestplaces.net, took into consideration several factors, including crime, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, foreclosures, air quality, environmental hazards, terrorist threats, life expectancy and job loss numbers in 127 U.S. metropolitan areas with populations between 150,000 and 500,000.
This marks the sixth straight year that the Fargo-Moorhead area has appeared among the top 20 in the annual Farmers study.
Mid-sized cities ranking ahead of Fargo-Moorhead on the 2010 list were Olympia, Wash.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Bellingham, Wash.; and Kennewick-Richland-Pasco, Wash.
In 2009, the F-M-area metro ranked first.
