FARGO — City of Fargo building permit records indicate a Casey's General Store may be in the works for the corner formerly home to a Ground Round restaurant at 2902 13th Ave. S.
According to the city's website, a permit request with the description "Construct a new Casey's store with fuel pumps" was filed July 9. The projected cost is listed as $1.7 million. Plans call for the existing restaurant to be demolished.
A call placed to the contact person listed on the permit request, Dustin Tomoson, for additional information was not returned before deadline Monday, July 15.
The city has not yet granted the permit.
Ground Round closed in July 2017 after operating in Fargo for nearly 30 years. A Daniel Companies "For Sale" sign still stands next to the building.
Calls placed to Bill Daniel of Daniel Companies and Bill Walljasper, Casey's senior vice president and chief financial officer, were also not returned Monday.
Several Casey's General stores were recently remodeled. One that was not at 1462 N. Broadway closed last year. At the time, a spokesperson said the decision to close was made because the chain felt it could still cover the area well without it.
According to its website, Casey's operates 15 stores in Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead and Dilworth.
