FARGO-A nonprofit based here since 2009 is moving its headquarters to the Seattle area.

World Vets, an organization founded in 2006 in Washington state that provides veterinary aid, training and disaster relief around the world, announced the move earlier this month. The nonprofit has leased a building at 802 1st Ave. N. since 2009.

"World Vets is proud to have been based in Fargo but we are now looking forward to the relocation of our headquarters to the Pacific Northwest," CEO and founder Cathy King said in a written statement. "This move will allow us to better serve our mission as we grow and expand our programs."

While the announcement praised the "solid economic climate" and "central geographic location" of its North Dakota headquarters for helping the organization grow, King said the move will better support World Vets' mission and open the door to new collaborations.

World Vets has more than 3,600 volunteers and projects in 45 countries. The relocation of its headquarters won't affect the employment of anyone currently working in Fargo, according to Office Manager Katie Cole.

The relocation will be done in September.
