WEST FARGO -- Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bar, which opened its first ever North Dakota location in Grand Forks in 2005 , announced its now giving North Dakota another chance.

Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar announced Wednesday, March 1, that it will open its first location in the state in West Fargo sometime this year. The original Grand Forks location closed in 2008 and was replaced by Space Aliens.

The company’s U.S. operations are based in Dallas, and it now has 28 restaurants in 22 states, according to a news release. Its sister brand, Boston Pizza, has more than 400 restaurants in Canada.

The casual dining Boston’s restaurants combine a family friendly eatery with a sports bar, specializing in gourmet pizza and pasta, salads, sandwiches and sports bar favorites.

The announcement said North Dakota locations will be opened by operating partner Tyler Birkland, who owns a Boston’s restaurant in Prince Albert, Canada. His franchise partners include Gregg Most and Jim Werschler, who operate 14 restaurants in Saskatchewan.

The news release said the group is specifically targeting Bismarck, Minot and the Fargo area for future development.

“It is clear West Fargo is the ideal place to introduce the brand in North Dakota, and we look forward to serving the community for many years to come,” Birkland said in a written statement.

The announcement didn’t specify the location of the West Fargo restaurant.

A previous version of this story stated that the proposed store in West Fargo would be the first Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bar in North Dakota.
