There's a clear-cut favorite fast-food chain in the United States and it's not even close.

The study is based on which chains received the most visits on average in every state based on the total number of visits to each chain divided by the number of locations in that state.

Minnesota agrees with the majority of Americans as it also voted Chick-fil-A its No. 1 fast-food joint.

North Dakota was one of three states that voted McDonald's as its premiere choice of fast food. Washington, D.C., and Alaska also voted McDonald's No. 1.

South Dakota was one of only two states to vote Popeye's No. 1. Hawaii also voted for Popeye's as their favorite fast-food restaurant.

Other restaurants voted No. 1 were: Raising Cane's, White Castle, In-N-Out, Culver's, Taco Bueno and Wendy's.
