WEST FARGO-A trip to downtown Fargo will no longer be required for anyone with a hankering for German fare and big beers.

The second location opened Oct. 1 in the former home of Loren Lee's at 3179 Bluestem Drive, in a building also home to a Bottle Barn liquor store, and has already attracted a crowd.

"It's been crazy," said co-owner Bert Meyers. "The first day was a little slow, and it's been gangbusters since."

The pub serves wine on tap and has a rotating selection of 36 tap beers and a full bar, just like the Fargo location that opened in 2014 at 630 1st Ave. N.

Meyers said the restaurant offers a nearly identical menu as its downtown Fargo location.

"We just don't have as big of a vegan menu; we do have a vegan dish and we have gluten-free, but it's limited," Meyers said.

The menu gives diners the choices of gourmet or classic wursts (sausage) and classic German dishes, such as jäger schnitzel, currywurst and kuchen, a traditional German dessert.

Meyers and co-owners Lisa Meyers and Klaus Meyers had not formally planned to open a second location but were open to West Fargo.

"We had talked about it over the years and the opportunity fell in our lap," Meyers said. "We know the building owner and we came in and looked at it and went for it. We weren't looking for another restaurant to open; it kind of just happened. We got the right people on our team to do it, and we said OK."

A Wurst Bier Hall West Facebook post July 19 announced the decision with: "Hold on to your lederhosen. Wurst is putting their stamp on West Fargo!"

Wurst Bier Hall West is still hiring for a variety of positions.

"If you know a cook, send 'em our way," Meyers said.

Wurst Bier Hall West is open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight. The restaurant is family-friendly, with minors allowed in daily until 9 p.m. with an adult.
