FARGO - Target is looking to open a liquor store at its south Fargo location near West Acres.

A request for an off-sale liquor license goes before Fargo’s Liquor Control Board at its Wednesday, Feb. 19, meeting.

The Class B-Limited license would be issued to STL of North Dakota Inc., which is doing business as Target Wine & Spirits at 4202 13th Ave. S.

City Auditor Steve Sprague said Thursday, Feb. 13, that Target officials told him the store would be about 3,000 square feet.

Sprague was unsure if the store would take up any space in the building’s current footprint, or be all new construction. However, he said the liquor store will only have access from outside the building, not from within the current store. He said the entrance also conforms to city requirements that it be 100 feet from other store entrances.

Both of the Cash Wise stores in Fargo have liquor stores and Hornbacher’s has a liquor store near its grocery store in the Osgood shopping center in the city’s southwest quadrant.

If the Liquor Board approves the license request, it would be heard by the City Commission at its Feb. 24 meeting.

Sprague said Target won’t start construction until the license is approved. He said it would take some time to build the structure, but he was unsure of the projected date for it to be finished.
