MOORHEAD -- MAC'S, Inc., a chain of hardware stores based in Moorhead, has been acquired by Central Network Retail Group, a multi-brand retailer with 90 hardware stores, home centers and lumberyards across the U.S.

According to a press release issued by CNRG, Mac's Hardware stores will continue to operate under their existing brand name and all associates interested in continuing in their current positions will become part of the CNRG team.

At the time the sale was announced this fall, Mac's employed nearly 200 associates at its stores in Fargo, Jamestown, Devils Lake, Bismarck, Minot, Dickinson and Bismarck in North Dakota; Aberdeen, Watertown and Sioux Falls in South Dakota; and Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Olivia and Albany in Minnesota.

Otto McWethy founded the enterprise that would become Mac's in 1965 in West Fargo. Shareholder and Chairman Chuck McWethy, Otto's grandson, said the sale "was driven by the company's desire to provide future opportunities to expand the Mac's footprint and better serve its customers."
