FARGO - Hector International Airport has been named the 2019 Busiest Small Airport of the Year in North America by Official Aviation Guide.

Hector International recorded 553,492 scheduled departures in the last 12 months (June 2018 to May 2019), the guide reported.

“This acknowledgement is a reflection of the passengers we serve.” said Shawn Dobberstein, the airport’s executive director. “We’re grateful for our community and so thankful for all the people who choose to fly Fargo.”

Hector International is a civil and military airport on Fargo’s north side, about three miles northwest of downtown.

Small airports are classified by OAG as those that record 510,000 to 554,000 departing scheduled seats annually.

Rounding out the top 10 list for small airport scheduled departures are Akron-Canton Airport, serving the greater Cleveland, Ohio, area, at second with 552,234 boardings; followed by Key West (Fla.) International with 549,931 scheduled departures; Billings (Mont.) Logan International, with 547,200; and Rick Husband Amarillo (Texas) International, 541,800; Tallahassee (Fla.) International, 535,466; Jackson (Miss.) Evers International, 533,934; Tri-Cities Airport, Pasco, Wash., 518,405; Yellowknife Airport, Northwest Territories, Canada, 516,930; and Baton Rouge (La.) Metropolitan Airport, 510,035.

Hector International is served by Delta, United Express, Frontier, American Eagle and Allegiant airlines. It offers non-stop services to Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Phoenix-Mesa, and seasonal services to Atlanta, Los Angeles and Orlando-Sanford.
