Wahpeton business marks milestone

WCCO Belting Inc., based in Wahpeton, N.D., is celebrating 60 years in business this month.
Ed Shorma opened a shoe repair shop in Wahpeton in 1954 and today the Shorma family operates more than a dozen companies with more than 1,000 employees at multiple locations across the country.
The original division, WCCO Belting, continues to be based in Wahpeton and manufactures specialized rubber products for agricultural and industrial businesses worldwide.
In 1982, Shorma was named the North Dakota and National Small Business Person of the Year and in 2003 WCCO was recognized as North Dakota Exporter of the Year.
Thomas Shorma, the third eldest son of Ed and Pat Shorma, has managed the family business since 2001.
Doug Burgum to speak at Downtown Day event
The Downtown Development Association of Grand Forks will host Downtown Day at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Empire Arts Center, Grand Forks.
