Marketplace for Kids Thursday at Concordia

Students will showcase their innovative ideas in the Olsen Forum building on the Concordia College campus on Thursday during Marketplace for Kids.

The day-long event provides a variety of educational classes and activities to help students develop skills, enhance personal development and explore career options.

Class topics will include "Tennis Anyone," "Hair We Go," "Concerts, Roller Coasters and Cotton Candy," "How Weather Works," "Nano, Nano" and "Fast and Furious."

Other events include music by the West Fargo Sheyenne Jazz Band, the Fargo Public School Junior ROTC will present the colors, Mark Krejci, provost and dean at Concordia, will welcome the students, and Chris Linnares, author of "Beautiful Women of North Dakota," will be the featured speaker.

ND employers named semifinalists for award

Three North Dakota employers have been named semifinalists for the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Awards, which recognize exceptional support from employers for the National Guard and Reserve.

Among the 148 semifinalists are Basin Electric Power Cooperative and the North Dakota Department of Transportation, both in Bismarck, and Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson, Dickinson.

A national review board will narrow the group to 30 finalists for the awards, which will be presented Sept. 22 at a ceremony in Washington.

Fergus Falls care center moves to new building

PioneerCare Center of Fergus Falls, Minn., has built a new building in Fergus Falls and the residents will begin moving to the new site on Monday, weather permitting.

PioneerCare has occupied its current site since 1928. The new building, about four blocks from the original location, is about 105,000 square feet, more than double the space of the original site.

In the new building, residents will live in household settings with rooms grouped around shared living space with each household featuring a kitchen, laundry, dining area and a living room with a fireplace.
