St. Mary's Level III designation renewed
The Minnesota Department of Health has renewed the designation of Essentia Health St. Mary's, Detroit Lakes, Minn., as a Level III trauma hospital.
Essentia Health hospital staff participated in the renewal designation process to remain part of Minnesota's statewide trauma system.
The process included an outside review of the hospital's resources and its capabilities to care for severely injured patients.
APUC awards funding for eight ND projects

The North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission has awarded funding requests for eight projects totaling $348,165. Projects receiving funding included:
- StopSensor, New Salem, $25,000 for production of 15 prototype devices and related accessories;
- VFM, Fargo, $28,500 to defray costs associated with prototype development, parts, development, testing and research for mobile application auto-steer technology;
- North Dakota State University Department of Mechanical Engineering, $24,465 for a feasibility project of using soy and corn agriculture fibers for manufacturing existing products;
- Food First, Walhalla, $36,000 to defray the costs of a project to provide consumers with information to make informed decisions on a dietary fiber source; and
- Dakota College, Bottineau, $11,200 to assist with the costs associated in purchasing a tea compost system, compost tumblers and injection system.
Electrical apprentice training offered
The Independent Electrical Contractors Dakotas is offering apprentice electrician classes beginning Aug. 20.

Classes will be one night a week August through May in South Dakota and North Dakota. Online training is also available.
The four-year program instructs apprentice electricians in residential, commercial and industrial wiring, motors, blueprint reading, grounding, theory and more.

Paul M. Bursik retiring from library network
Paul M. Bursik, Detroit Lakes, Minn., is retiring from the Northern Lights Library Network. He has served as a board member and president of the network for six years.
Bursik, a native of Omaha, Neb., served with the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve. He then had a 30-year career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Nebraska and North Dakota.
The network serves all types of libraries in 23 counties in northwest and west central Minnesota.
Dakota Defense Alliance awarded USDA grant

The Dakota Defense Alliance has been awarded a $24,933 Rural Business Enterprise grant from North Dakota's U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Center.
The grant will provide technical assistance, training and support to small businesses and start-ups in rural North Dakota. It will also help leverage the DDA North Dakota Strong program which assists military veterans in finding employment and relocating to the state.
