Fargo's West Acres mall is adding a new women's clothing

store.

Chico's is a specialty retailer of private branded, sophisticated, casual-to-dressy clothing, intimates and accessories.

The store is geared toward women ages 35 and older. It will be in the current Victoria's Secret space.

Victoria's Secret opens Monday in part of the former Scheels location.

Tradehome Shoes is also expanding and moving to the other portion of the Scheels space.

Chico's will start construction in mid-November and plans to open in late January.

"We think it will do very well in the mall," said Rusty Papachek, mall manager.

Lil' Bloomers child care to open

A new child-care center is opening soon in the Osgood development of Fargo.

Lil' Bloomers is being built at 4656 40th Ave. S.

The center has been operating out of a temporary location at 4265 45th St. S. since Oct. 15.

Melissa Bloom, Lil' Bloomers owner, hopes to open the permanent facility Dec. 1.

The center accepts children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. It is currently licensed for 35 children, but will be licensed for 76 in the new building.

"I just felt that the need was here for quality care that is going to be convenient for parents, as well," Bloom said.

She plans to expand by December 2008. She said she may open an infant center at that time because the need for infant child care in the community is so great.

DMS launches mobile digital mammography

Fargo-based DMS Imaging is adding digital mammography to its mobile service offerings.

Plans are to launch the service in March to hospitals and clinics in northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota before offering it nationwide, said Nathan Roesler, DMS Imaging regional vice president.

The 10-minute procedure will be provided on specially built trucks containing an exam room, dressing room and technician station, Roesler said.

Digital mammography allows radiologists to closely view

X-ray images zeroing in on suspicious or concerning areas. It takes less than half the time of traditional,

film-based exams.

"The customers are ready and we're ready," Roesler said.

DMS Imaging is a member of DMS Health Group, a subsidiary of Otter Tail Power Corp.

Midcontinent opening West Fargo facility

Cable television provider Midcontinent Communications has begun construction of a 13,500-square-foot operations center in West Fargo.

Since July, construction crews have been installing Midcontinent's fiber-optic network to business and residential customers in West Fargo.

"We are getting closer to our launch of services in West Fargo," said Midcontinent CEO Pat McAdaragh. "It has always been our intention to have all of West Fargo ready in 2008 and it appears that we can meet that goal."

Midcontinent serves 200 communities in western Minnesota, North and South Dakota.

N.D. alliance focuses on defense business

A team of North Dakota businesses has formed the Dakota Defense Alliance in hopes of winning defense contracts.

The eight companies are Alien Technology, Fargo; Dakota Micro, Cayuga; Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing, Killdeer; SEO Precision, Crosby; Magnum Manufacturing, Amenia; Ray-Mac, Gwinner; Virginia-based XIO Technologies, partner to Alien; and The Printers, Bismarck.

The alliance was formed to enable North Dakota companies to play a larger role in the nation's defense supply chain, said Kristin Hedger, founder and executive director.

Greg Rohde, founder of Washington, D.C.-based E-Copernicus, will serve as an adviser to the alliance.

"We can ensure North Dakota companies are 'in the know' about opportunities to provide products to our nation's defense supply chain," Rhode said.
