Chuck Bohnet, longtime senior executive and board member of Forum Communications, dies
Chuck Bohnet served in a variety of executive roles at The Forum, WDAY and Forum Communications. He is remembered as a "super star" executive and "quintessential advertising man."
FARGO — Chuck Bohnet joined the advertising staff of The Forum in 1959. It was the beginning of a career and association with Forum Communications that would continue for more than six decades.
Bohnet died Thursday, June 9. He was 86.
After joining The Forum's retail advertising staff, Bohnet was named Moorhead adverstising manager. He later served dual roles as advertising director and general sales manager.
Bohnet was promoted to the newly created position of general manager in 1977, when the public service role demanded more time of William Marcil Sr., who was The Forum's longtime publisher and now is chairman of the board of Forum Communications.
"Chuck was a key executive at Forum Communications Co. for many years and served in various capacities in our growth and development," Marcil said. "Chuck was loyal and dedicated to our company and our family. He was a super star."
Bohnet was one of Marcil's closest advisers and confidants.
In 1986, Bohnet joined the board of WDAY Inc., owned by Forum Communications, and assumed the duties of vice president of the company's broadcast properties.
Bohnet's tenure at the helm of the company's broadcasting operations coincided with a time of technological and programming changes for the industry. He presided over equipment modernization and expanded broadcast capacity.
In 1990, Bohnet returned to Forum Communications' newspaper division, when he was named to oversee all newspaper operations. The same year he was named to the board of Forum Communications, where he was an active member until his death.
Bohnet embodied the attributes of an advertising man and will be remembered for his years of dedication to the company, said Bill Marcil, Jr., president and CEO of Forum Communications and publisher of The Forum.
"Chuck was a one of a kind," he said. "The quintessential advertising man, he loved a good martini, a drag on a cigarette and a great joke. He gave so much to this company and to me personally. I am grateful for the time I spent with Chuck learning about business and life."
