MOORHEAD - Comstock Commons, a three-story apartment and commercial building going up near Concordia College, is expected to open in August 2019, an ownership group partner said Friday, Dec. 21.
The $1.45 million project at 600 8th Street S. will have commercial lease spaces on the main floor and eight apartments above, said Matt Baasch, a partner in Comstock Commons, LLC.
Discussions are being held with potential main floor tenants, the Hawley, Minn., man said.
“Nothing is inked yet, but we’ve had tremendous interest in being there,” Baasch said.
The building is being built by Fargo's Enclave Development, he said.

Baasch said talks with nearby homeowners and other neighborhood representatives should make the building a successful fit for the area.
Neighbors were able to get a look at the projects design drawings and talk about the finishes and materials to make the building better fit with the overall look of the area.
“We’ve had a lot of great conversations with the neighbors about the project, what they’d like to see it look like, how it interacts with the community as far as parking and ingress and egress, the types of businesses they’d like to see on the main floor. I think things have gone very, very well from that standpoint,” Baasch said.
“The one really good thing that came out of the neighborhood meetings and our discussions is … the lot to the far east will remain a single-family residential home,” he said.
Baasch said a major concern for neighboring homeowners was the possibility that if Comstock Commons encompassed the entire north side of the block, that “commercial creep” could continue down 9th Street.
“I totally understand where they are coming from,” he said.
“Hopefully, we’ve helped kind of stop that with that residential lot, keeping 9th Street a single family residential neighborhood,” he said.
“It’s gone really well. I think it’s a great example of what development can look like,” Baasch said.
