Doyle and Patsy Johannes will host a Discovery Farms field day at their home near Underwood, N.D., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8.

Discovery Farms is a cooperative program involving North Dakota State University, the North Dakota Department of Health and U.S. Geological Survey.

A Discovery Farm is a working farm or ranch voluntarily cooperating with local, state and federal natural resource managers to evaluate and demonstrate the effectiveness of various practices to reduce environmental impacts while maintaining farm profitability.

The Johannes farm is one of three in North Dakota's Discovery Farms program.

"The field day will be a great opportunity for the public to see what exactly the Discovery Farms project consists of," says Ron Wiederholt, an NDSU Extension Service nutrient management specialist.
