FARGO — Dr. Bill Heegaard has been named as president for Essentia Health's West Market, comprised of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota, a role he will assume this spring.
Heegaard served most recently as chief medical officer and chief clinical officer at Hennepin Health System in Minneapolis. He also is a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School and has practiced adult and pediatric emergency medicine at Hennepin Health since 1994.
"Dr. Heegaard's success in building teams for high-quality patient care is demonstrated through his many professional achievements," said Essentia Health CEO David Herman. "He has a strong background in quality, innovation in health care delivery, research, recruitment and philanthropy."
Heegaard received his medical degree and a master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota. He also earned a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern Universality in Evanston, Ill., in 2017.
Heegard will start in the position April 6.
