FARGO - The Fargo and Bismarck Bed Bath & Beyond stores have survived a round of 63 store closings that are part of the company’s aim to close 200 of its namesake stores in the next two years, USA Today reported Friday, Sept. 18.
A list of stores published by USA Today covered 29 states, with California and New York leading with six closures apiece. North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota did not have any stores on the most recent list.
The Grand Forks, N.D., store was closed late last year as part of a group of store closings in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
During the quarter, which ended May 30, the company said it closed 21 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and also closed 14 stores in late 2019, USA Today reported.
In July, Bed Bath & Beyond announced a plan to close 200 this year, or about 21% of the firm’s namesake stores, USA Today reported.

Bed Bath & Beyond CEO Mark Tritton said closing 200 locations would save the company between $250 and $350 million annually after one-time costs, USA Today reported.
Tritton said the COVID-19 pandemic was "felt across our business during our fiscal first quarter, including loss of sales due to temporary store closures."

As of May 30, the New Jersey-based home goods retailer had 1,478 stores, including 955 Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationwide and in Canada, 262 stores under the names of World Market, Cost Plus World Market or Cost Plus, 127 buybuy Baby stores, 81 stores under the names Christmas Tree Shops, Christmas Tree Shops andThat! or andThat!, and 53 stores under the names Harmon, Harmon Face Values or Face Values, USA Today reported.
