Fargo - A board-certified physician who has practiced family medicine in the area since 1999 has opened a new private practice where she will specialize in turning back the hands of time.
At Fountain of Youth MD, Dr. Aileen Luz provides services such as medical grade chemical peels, SkinPen treatments, wrinkle-smoothing injectables, dermal fillers, skin tightening and body contouring.
Luz said she has been interested in cosmetic medicine for years but was reluctant to start her own business.
“Not many doctors know about the business side. It’s a known fact. We know about medicine and taking care of people, but there are very few who can combine that with the business side,” Luz said.
Thankfully her husband, financial consultant Tony Luz, was willing to get the business started while she completed training at the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine in San Diego.
As a medical doctor first, Luz said she is particularly focused on safety and patient education.
She describes her philosophy as “client education plus safe and effective treatments equals your friends asking if you have found the fountain of youth.”
Each client’s skin and vision of beauty are different, so Luz begins with a consultation and then develops an individualized treatment plan. She also carefully explains any potential side effects treatments may have and how long it should take to see results.
Luz said she also talks about the importance of good skin care. Those who stay out of the sun and follow a good skin regimen between treatments can expect much better results.
“I like to educate them so they can take care of their skin from the inside out,” she said.
Luz said she plans to continue practicing medicine part time at the Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center, but if Fountain of Youth continues to grow, she is not ruling out adding hours or personnel in the future.
Although she was nervous about setting out on her own, she knew she would regret it if she did not try. So far, she said she loves it.
“I enjoy doing this. I wish I would have started earlier,” Luz said.
